Application Requirements
CBID currently NOT accepting MSE applications.
** Applications will be accepted starting in Fall 2025**
Students must apply online. Paper or electronic applications sent directly to the department will not be accepted. There are no course prerequisites for the program, and prior work experience or a background in engineering is not required either.
Please make sure you make the following selections when applying to our program:
- Apply as – Full-time graduate student
- Department – Biomedical engineering
- Program – Bioengineering Innovation and Design
- Degree Type – Master’s
- Degree – M.S.E. in Bioengineering Innovation and Design
- Anticipated Start Term – June 1, 2026
We require the following application materials:
- Statement of purpose
- Personal statement
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
- Resume
- Official undergraduate transcripts
- Sample of work
- GRE is NOT required
- TOEFL or IELTS, required of all international applicants for whom English is not the primary language.
- International students are not required to submit a professional credential evaluation.
- All ETS exam scores should be sent to Johns Hopkins University School of Engineering. Send TOEFL scores to institution code C559; visit International Students to learn more. We do not require applicants to select a department code for either exam. If ETS requires a department code, select the department you are applying to, or the ‘General’ option if your program is not listed
Application Deadline
The deadline for applications for the CBID MSE program is January 7th, 2026. A complete application must be submitted by the deadline. Late submissions will not be considered.
Application Processing/Timeline
- Mid to Late January 2026: Selected candidates will be invited for first round interviews via Zoom
- Mid-February 2026: Selected candidates will be invited for second round interviews and a Hopkins campus visit
- Early to Mid-March 2026: Notification of admission
- Early June 2026: First day of graduate orientation for new class (exact date to be confirmed)
- May 2027: Graduation
- We offer summer admissions only. GRE scores are not required. However, optional submissions will be accepted but will not factor into the full review process.
