HopHacks 2024

November 15, 2024

HopHacks is a 36 hour annual Hackathon held at the Johns Hopkins University that encourages engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs to explore new ideas and create new applications. Teams of up to 4 university students work on projects from scratch. At the end of the hackathon, teams present their projects to judges and compete for prizes ($1024, $512, $256 for top 3 winners and sponsor specific prizes)!

HopHacks 2024, on September 13 – 15, 2024, was a tremendous success, with 14 teams tackling our CBID Track challenge to improve patient history collection in telemedicine consultations. Over 60 teams from diverse locations, including Georgia, California, Upstate New York, UMD, and Johns Hopkins, competed, showcasing a wide range of innovative AI-driven solutions. The challenge was inspired by real-world observations from rural India, and it was incredible to see the creative solutions developed, including multi-language symptom intake systems and adaptive history-taking using phone calls.

After 36 hours of intense work, the judges, Jay Tailor, Lindsay, and Santiago, awarded the top prize to Team #43 SymptomSync for their exceptional ease of use and scalability. Team #49 HealthIndia secured second place with their impressive solution. The quality of submissions made the judging process challenging, but it was exciting to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants. We look forward to collaborating with the top teams as we continue to advance telemedicine solutions. Special thanks to HopHacks and CBID for sponsoring and organizing this impactful event.
